Perched on a side of a rolling hill with panoramic views of arid but colourful landscape and enjoying a backdrop of the magnificent Calle Alto mountain range you can see why the current owns were compelled to make a home here.
The cortijo comprises of 11 rooms which break down as follows. Section (1) A kitchen with separate larder room, Section (2) large entrance hall and four further rooms which can be allocated for bedrooms, dining room, additional bathroom and lounge – two of these rooms are cave rooms. Moving upstairs there is a large attic room with its own external entrance as well as being accessible internally. Section (3) Is the bathroom and the coral with two father rooms one is a large cave room. Section (4) A gym and sitting area. Section (5) In the stables are a further two rooms.
The kitchen and bathroom are separate from the main house and have their own external access. They can be incorporated into the main house but the vendors felt there was no need to do this as they enjoyed the home as it was. The cortijo is very old with thick natural stone walls which provide a cool living space in the summer and a cosy living space in the winter. Sometimes it can be as hot as 40º plus outside and the internal temperature never exceeds 24º. The temperatures in the cortijo are so stable because of the cave rooms which act as natural A/C. The property does have hot cold A/C in the kitchen and the large attic room.
The home is located in a very tranquil setting where you can experience the most magnificent sunrises and the views at dusk can be something quite spectacular which can really take your breath away.
The outside patio, walkways and small terraces are made of marble and work well with the vegetation the owners have planted to add to the ambience of the place. Vegetation to the immediate area of the patio and cortigo include 6 cypress trees, acacia trees, pine trees and many other plants including potted plants. The size of build for the cortijo is 250m2 and the plot size is 6400m2 with a plateau area of 400m2 of flat land with olive trees. There is a large area to the side of the cortijo which can accommodate many cars and a pool could be introduced if so desired.
The home does not have mains water connected, but has water rights with a 30,000 LT water tank that can be fill as and when needed. There is provision for mains water to be connected and this can easily be done. Mains electric is connected and there is a tarmac road to the house, although you do have a short drive via a rambla (dry riverbed) to access the property – this is very normal for many country homes in Albox. The home is not overlooked at all, therefore ensuring privacy and the immediate neighbours are a Spanish couple, follow by a French couple. The makeup of the surrounding community is mainly Spanish and British and very friendly. Many expats here are involved in community groups, charities and arrange many good course events which benefit everyone including ex-pats. In addition, getting involved in these groups is a great way to meet people and making new friends within the area that can help you integrate into your new life.
