The Costa de Almeria is situated between the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca on the southern coast of mainland Spain. It has become a very popular tourist destination both to northern Spaniards and northern Europeans alike. The two main holiday resorts are Roquetas de Mar which is 10km from the Almeria airport and Mojacar 90km from the airport. They both provide that perfect beach holiday destination with long sandy beaches lining the rugged and varied coastline with around 320 days of sunshine. The average temperature is 27º in summer and 15º in winter. This makes Almeria an all-year round holiday destination and a great place to live. Not only that, stunning mountains surround the region, and in the winter you can even go skiing on the Sierra Nevada ski resorts near Granada (about 2 ½ hours drive away).
Part of the region has a dry and desert like landscape that has made the Costa de Almeria famous for the filming of many movies mainly Spaghetti Westerns due to the landscape resembling Arizona. There are also many first class sporting facilities; in fact Almería was appointed the host for the Almería 2005 15th Mediterranean Games. There are first-class water sports facilities and it’s also a golfer’s paradise, with several superb golf courses.
